    Challenge to Interactive Stereoscopic Images

As a variation of PhotoVR, Texnai newly started to offer a various kind of stereoscopic QTVR as well as ordinary stereoscopic images. When using Texnai's AutoQTVR, the stereoscopic QTVR object movies can be shot very easily not using twin cameras. To create the sterescopic movie, we newly developed the Stereoscopic Editor that creates a set of stereoscopic image matrix by processing each pair of different images shot by AutoQTVR at the step of 5 degree.

  • Methods of Stereoscopic Display

There is a couple of method to realize the stereoscopic view by using a computer display as shown below.

  • Anaglyph method
By using a pair of red and blue color glasses, you can get the stereoscopic effect at ease with any kind of display that includes Brown Tube PSD, LCD, and Projectors.
  • However, due to the anaglyph glasses, colors of pure red and blue are lost. Stereoscopic QTVR shown in this site are created for the anaglyph glasses.

  • Polarizing Filter method
By using a pair of polarizing glasses, you can see the stereoscopic images at ease without losing colors. However, ordinary computer displays can not be used and you need to use a projection type display for this method. To realize the stereoscopic effect, a polarizing screen designed for the projector must be attached in front of the lenz.

  • Syncronizing Shutter method
By using a pair of syncronizing shutter glasses, you can see the stereoscopic effect by using any computer displays. The problem is that the syncronizing shutter glasses is a little more expensive than others and the image becomes a little darker.

  • Lenticular screen method
This lenticular screen method allows you to appreciate the stereoscopic images with your naked eyes without any special glasses. We can use a couple of display such as LCD, PDP and Projection Screen, but we need to design a lenticular screen for each display and attach it precisely on the display. The problem is the cost of screen and the limited position of your eyes. The right eyes positions are limited depending on the specifications of the lenticular screen, so the image rapidly jumps when moving your head and the eyes position. Even though, this stereoscopic display with naked eyes might be interesting and make your presentation much more impressive than before especially at such open space as Trade Show, Museums and Show Cases on the street. Some stereoscopic LCD equipped with the lenticular screen is release in the market today.

  • Grid barrier screen method
This grid barrier screen also allows you to see the stereoscopic images with naked eyes. The principle of this method is simular to the lenticular screen method and it applies the optical effect of pin hole in place of a lenz. However, the barriers cover a part of image lines, so the stereoscopic image becomes darker than lenticular screen method.

  • Prism screen method
As a variation of the grid barrier screen, there is a stereoscopic 3D display equipped with a micro-prism screen on LCD and PDP. It seems that the eye position is relatively flexible.
  • There are so many stereoscopic displays in the world today, but the essential point is how to create the stereoscopic images. Texnai is ready to offer any stereoscopic images regardless the methods so far as the display specifications are disclosed to us.
